Thomas Jones

Lieutenant Thomas Jones, son of Benjamin and Elizabeth Wild Jones, was born about 1680 in Enfield, Connecticut, and died here November 4, 1763. He was elected ensign and later lieutenant of the Enfield Train Band. Thomas was a lieutenant in the Enfield Militia, a leader in church and colonial affairs. He served as lieutenant of the Ninth Massachusetts Regiment at the Seig of Louisburg in 1745. He held an important place in Enfield: between 1709 and 1744 he was elected selectman sixteen times, assessor nine times, town surveyor ten times, and moderator of town meeting fourteen times. He took an active part in the separation of Connecticut from Massachusetts and was first representative from Enfield to the Connecticut General Assembly. Lieutenant Thomas Jones married, April 24, 1708, Mary Meacham. The fifth of their nine children was Israel.1 Thomas Jones was born circa 1680 in Gloucester, Essex, Massachusetts, America.1 He was the son of Benjamin Jones and Elizabeth Wildes. On Tuesday, 24 April 1708 in Enfield, in Hampshire, Massachusetts, America, Thomas Jones married Mary Meacham, age 23.1 Thomas Jones died on 4 November 1763 in Enfield, Connecticut, America.
