Károly Sziebert

b. 23 June 1881, d. 25 September 1948
1905 Karoly Sziebert
Károly, son of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler, was born in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary, on 23 June 1881. Károly Sziebert was the son of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler. He was baptized on 23 June 1881 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary.1 He went to high school in Pecs, to business school in Budapest and attended the University of Agriculture at Mosonmagyaróvár. Károly served in the Austro-Hungarian Army as Ist Lieutenant of the Artillery with colorful uniform becoming an excellent horseman.2 He married Ida Heckinger, 24, in Cathedral of Pécs - Chapel of Corpus Christi, Pécs, Baranya, Hungary. They were married by Dezso Szabo. Witnesses: George Lieber and Joseph Simon. He was strong-willed, a good Catholic, outstanding businessman, farmer and a true animal lover, especially of horses, Swiss Simmental cattle and dogs. He also loved trees, planting thousands of them. He liked quality in everything in land, animals, plants, farm equipment, keeping it in fit condition and good order. He inherited 50 acres and the lease of 250 acres (his sister's property). He bought 1800 acres - equipping it well.2 We have a photo of their marriage. Károly Sziebert and Ida Heckinger had 8 children between 1908 and 1920. All of the children were born in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary. Károly Sziebert appeared in a family photo of 1918 in Németboly. In 1934 he is mentioned in the Baranya directory of notable people. He was a highly successful farmer with four puszyas or farms spread throughout Baranya county, as well as vineyards and other interests. All were forfeited to the Communist government in 1950.3 He made a will in 1943 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary. He carefully divided his farms and property among his four surviving children to prevent an inheritance fight such as he experienced when his father died. Károly died on 25 September 1948 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary at age 67. Cause of death was heart attack.4
"That September morning he went to Mass, then they (his son, Stephen, and granddaughter, Maria) drove the buggy to the puszta. This was the last few acres, the ruins of his former wealth. But this was his, with its rich, black soil! He and Stephen talked about the family and the future. Papa walked around, checked his cows, horses. "Let's go home!" he said. They climbed up the step into the buggy. There he collapsed and died in his son's arms. He suffered a fatal heart attack."5

1905 Ida Heckinger Sziebert
Ida was born in Baja, Bács-Bodrog, Hungary, on 1 September 1883.1 She was baptized on 22 September 1883 in Budapest, Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kis-Kun, Hungary.2 Her baptism name was Ida Erzsebet Heckinger. In 1904 Ida graduated from the Elizabeth Academy of Budapest. She was trained as a math and physics high school teacher. She was the brightest of the six Hekinger girls, obtaining one of the two scholarships to the Women's College in Budapest. She became a high school teacher in mathematics, physics and physical education. She taught for two years.3
Karoly traveled to Pecs where there was culture, social happenings, theater and dances. While attending a ball he met a young lady, who stole his heart. Ida Heckinger had golden hair, beauty and brains. Her father, Mr. Heckinger, was a high school principal. Ida came from the city from a well-educated, refined family. She loved to play the piano and sing songs about a happy-go-lucky farmer returning to his home and some gypsy music about some love struck bunnies. The Szieberts were puritans, they believed in hard work and no play. Ida arrived to Boly with fine clothes, fancy hats, lots and lots of dreams. Well most of those dreams ended up in the bottom of her trunk.4 She married Károly Sziebert, 26, son of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler, in Cathedral of Pécs - Chapel of Corpus Christi, Pécs, Baranya, Hungary, on 29 February 1908. They were married by Dezso Szabo. Witnesses: George Lieber and Joseph Simon. Her married name was Ida Sziebert (Hekinger). We have a photo of their marriage. Ida Heckinger and Károly Sziebert had 8 children between 1908 and 1920. All of the children were born in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary. Ida appeared in the family photo in Károly Sziebert's household of 1918 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary. Ida died on 19 November 1959 in Pécs, Baranya, Hungary at age 76. "In 1959 Ida Heckinger Sziebert developed pneumonia, her body was hot with fever. Her lips dry, her face flushed. Her breathing was labored and difficult. Her daughter, Teri tried to hum a happy tune: Grandma's favorite was "The Return of the Jolly Farmer" or the song about the "Bunnies." Her daughter, Dia was stroking her forehand gently and prayers were being said. Finally, Ida Heckinger Sziebert's tired heart stopped on November 19, 1959."4
