Katicza Sziebert was also known as Katharina Sziebert. "Among her many accomplishments was her outstanding cooking. To learn the basics, her parents sent her to Pecs to the Nador Hotel. She could bake outstanding strudels, breads. What grand feasts she served! Her salads were famous and in this I count myself an ambitious follower. Katica too had the feel for making salad; she created naturally, without a recipe. Always everything without recipes!"1 She was baptized on 12 May 1891 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary.2 Katicza, daughter of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler, was born in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary, on 12 May 1891. Katicza Sziebert was the daughter of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler. Katicza Sziebert was ill with tuberculosis of the spine from the age of 10 and had a distorted spine as a result. Another version of this is that she fell off a high wall near the family crypt during a funeral when she was a child. This injured her spine and even a visit to Lourdes did not cure her. Katicza died on 11 February 1967 in Pécs, Baranya, Hungary, at age 75. She died from a heart attack or stroke.
Never married. Helped to raise the children of her brother, Karoly. Was considered a "second mother" by them. Had the reputation of being fun loving and the only one who could stand up to her strict brother. Took the children to movies and other forbidden pleasures.
