     Katicza Sziebert was also known as Katharina Sziebert. "Among her many accomplishments was her outstanding cooking. To learn the basics, her parents sent her to Pecs to the Nador Hotel. She could bake outstanding strudels, breads. What grand feasts she served! Her salads were famous and in this I count myself an ambitious follower. Katica too had the feel for making salad; she created naturally, without a recipe. Always everything without recipes!"1 She was baptized on 12 May 1891 in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary.2 Katicza, daughter of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler, was born in Németboly, Baranya, Hungary, on 12 May 1891. Katicza Sziebert was the daughter of István Sziebert and Katalin Trischler. Katicza Sziebert was ill with tuberculosis of the spine from the age of 10 and had a distorted spine as a result. Another version of this is that she fell off a high wall near the family crypt during a funeral when she was a child. This injured her spine and even a visit to Lourdes did not cure her. Katicza died on 11 February 1967 in Pécs, Baranya, Hungary, at age 75. She died from a heart attack or stroke.
Never married. Helped to raise the children of her brother, Karoly. Was considered a "second mother" by them. Had the reputation of being fun loving and the only one who could stand up to her strict brother. Took the children to movies and other forbidden pleasures.

Volunteered in the Austro-Hungarian military in Graz in WWI. He was on the Serbian front and later on the Russian front. He was a captain in the reserves. In the winter of 1915, he became a POW on the Russian front. He was a POW for six years in Siberia at Krasnoyarsk. At the POW camp, he became the camp administrator. Although escaping prisoners were routinely shot, he escaped with 12 others and made his way over three months through Russia. Russia was undergoing their revolution at that time. He was captured many times by the Reds or Whites and several times was scheduled to be executed. When he finally made it back to Hungary his parents did not recognize him. Only 2 of the 13 escapees made it to Hungary. Since Serbia occupied Pecs until 1921, he stayed in Budapest. After leaving the army, he began a logging business and had three lumber mills around the country. He was an excellent businessman. He had mining interests. Later he became associated with the Danube Steamship Company and became their primary representative in Pecs. He provided coal to them. Károly died on 7 March 1967 in Pécs, Baranya, Hungary at age 74 of heart failure.
